Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ.
Kindly follow the points below:
All must wear masks and cover their nose and mouth while reading.
Should there be a situation where the assigned Lector has forgotten his / her mask, or the mask is soiled & dirty, kindly approach the sacristan and request for a new mask.
As per guidelines issued Lectors aged 60 and above would not be permitted to read till further notice.
Social distancing norms should be followed.
A few important points below to be adhered to by all Lectors :
1. Please Pray before and after Proclaiming the Word.
2. Dress modestly befitting the Solemnity of the Eucharistic celebration.
3. After the first reading, for the Responsorial Psalm: The Lector should commence by saying "Our Response to the Psalm is".
4. To maintain a sense of uniformity, it is recommended that all Lectors bow before the crucifix, move straight up the steps and then gradually turn right to reach the Ambo, rather than moving diagonally from the base of the steps to the Ambo.
5. Assigned Lectors are requested to be present in the first pew at least 15 minutes prior to the commencement of the Eucharistic Celebration.
6. On completion of the readings all Lectors are required to pause for 3 to 4 seconds and then end with "The Word of the Lord ".
7. In order to better reflect the sanctity of our ministry, Lectors are advised to approach & return from the Ambo slowly and reverently, with their hands joined.
8. If you need to adjust the position of the microphone, please do so very gently.
9 . The " First Reader " would read the mass intentions before each mass, this would have to be done as the Sacristan enters the sanctuary to light the candles. The script to be read is as follows " During this Holy Mass we pray for the following intentions”.
10. Lectors are advised to serve only one ministry during the Mass.
11. For all Obligation Masses, Lectors assigned for the first and second readings would need to proceed to the altar together and come back to the pew together.
While bowing and climbing up the steps, the first reader would stand closer to the Ambo and the second lector on the left. While walking up, the second lector would follow the first lector.
Once the Gospel Acclamation is completed the second lector would lead and the first Lector follow.
For bowing on return the second lector would be positioned closer to the mic and the first lector on the left.
12. Lectors would be needed to proclaim the Gospel acclamation, please DO NOT address the congregation by saying “Please stand for Gospel acclamation”.
